Every affiliate knows Black Friday converts. But outside those big, obvious peaks, most campaigns still run on a flat calendar, as if players keep the same habits on a rainy Monday and Canada Day. They don’t — and the data are loud about it.

Holidays = Surge Mode

Take Christmas week. A recent Casino Guru survey of players from 37 countries found that 87 % gamble over the holidays “to relax”; volume isn’t just higher, it’s deliberate, ritualised play. Unity’s 4 000-respondent US study backs it up from the mobile side: more than one-third of adults plan extra gaming time in December, and Gen X out-grinds Gen Z.

The spike shows in the operators’ books. UK Gambling Commission figures for Q4 2024 (October–December) recorded a 21 % YoY jump in online GGY and a record 25.9 billion bets and spins. That lift isn’t spread evenly across the quarter; it clusters around pay-packet Fridays and public-holiday weekends, when screen time and disposable cash converge.

Marketing teams that track those dates see two compounding effects:

  • Lower CAC. Organic and branded search rise naturally when players are off work. Bid prices can come down — or stay flat while volume doubles.
  • Higher LTV. Holiday sessions are longer. SDLC Corp analysed seasonal slot launches and found engagement up as much as 30 % when a title hits during a relevant holiday window. Players who register during that “celebratory” mood return more often in the first 30 days, widening every retention curve that matters.

How a Date Turns into Margin

Picture a Canada-focused offer that ignores 1 July. Paid social CPMs stay high because every other vertical is jacking bids for holiday eyeballs, yet the casino’s creatives look like any other Monday. Meanwhile, a competitor launches a Canada-Day-only reload with push copy that references fireworks and Friday paychecks. Same media costs, radically different ROI.

Multiply that by the fragmented holiday maps of Switzerland, Spain, or Australia — countries where regional bank holidays create dozens of micro-spikes — and you get the outline of a free margin engine hiding in plain sight.

Introducing the Rocks Partners Traffic Holiday Calendar

Going forward, Rocks Partners will release a “Traffic Holiday Calendar” at the start of every month, flagging all key public holidays, regional observances, pay-day clusters, and soft events across our active GEOs. Meanwhile, you can get familiar with the quick July snapshot:

  • Canada Day — 1 July: long weekend; e-wallet deposits jump double-digits.
  • Bastille Day (France) — 14 July: metro traffic pauses, mobile play peaks during fireworks hours.
  • NAIDOC Week (Australia) — 7–14 July: nationwide celebrations; casual gaming time rises after 6 p.m. local.

The Quiet Gains

Affiliates who already run this playbook report something less obvious than revenue: steadier dashboards. When holiday surges are expected and budgeted, the weekly numbers stop looking like a seismograph. Peaks are welcome, not chaotic, and troughs get narrower because post-holiday retention journeys are ready before the last bonus expires.

Public holidays aren’t footnotes; they’re behavioural switch-flips. Map them, message to them, and let the calendar do the heavy lifting while your competitors argue over bid caps. The dates are fixed — the upside is still up for grabs.
